Lucy was discoverd in 1974 in Africa, near the village Hadar in Awash Valley of the Afar Triangle in Ethiopia. She belongs to a new species call Australopithecus afarensis, and it was clear that she was one of the most important fossils ever discovered. The Lucy specimen is an early australopithecine and is dated to about 3.2 million years ago.
